Jesus, the Original Superhero
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:17
He doesn’t have a special cape, come from another planet, wear a costume, use gadgets, or fly through the air, but He did many super amazing things that no other human has ever been able to do. He is not just a story; He is real and alive today. He is the ultimate and most victorious superhero in history! He holds the universe together with the power in His hands, a supernatural, divine power given to Him by God.
Jesus has everything we need in a superhero, and more! He is a miracle worker. He defeated death, walked on water, and has power over nature. As if that weren’t enough, He is the perfect and sinless Savior of the world.
However, unlike fictional superheroes who exist only in movies, video games, comic books, and TV shows and are flawed and often violent, the thing about Jesus is His meekness and humility. Jesus tells us to turn the other cheek in the face of persecution and suffering (Matthew 5:39). His apostle instructs us in Romans 12:21, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Isn’t that very different from what the world tells us?
The Lord calls each of us, no matter our age, to be heroic for Him in our daily lives. We are called to be courageous and bold. You’re not too young to actively fight against the evil all around us!
So, how can you become a superhero for the kingdom of God? By having Jesus, the original Superhero, in your heart and in your life, you can act as a hero to your family, friends, and everyone you meet. A superhero treats others how he or she wants to be treated. Real superheroes are truthful, have self-control, are kind to animals and all of God’s creation (see Genesis 1:28).
The greatest, most amazing, spectacular, important, exciting, and powerful thing of all time is that Jesus can save our hearts and souls. Everyone who has ever lived can be saved by Jesus. Now, that is one incredible superpower! Jesus is, and always will be, the only original Superhero Who could ever save our souls; those who obey His plan of salvation can live with Him forever in heaven. He is the Son of God (1 John 4:14-15).
You can start today by choosing one act of love or kindness to show God’s heart to someone in need. Serving others with love makes you a superhero in God’s kingdom here on earth. You can be a part of changing the world around you. God has given you gifts and special talents that no one else in the world has. Don’t hide them (Matthew 25:14-30).
Have you ever felt the desire to act differently, to be better, or to become a kind and loving person? We all need someone to look up to, and no one is a better example than Jesus. He loves you deeply and created you to make a difference in this world. Decide today to walk as Jesus walked, sharing His love with your family, friends, and community. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
